THEM.SG PRESENTS METAL STARGAZER

THEM.SG brings you the red version of the gold, red and green series. Zouk will host a pioneering night where metal and art collide. Curated by :phunkstudio legend Alvin Tan – this unprecedented event will have various artists and a metal band come together to give you a multi-disciplinary experience you will never forget. Zouk’s landscape will be transformed into an environment infused with red as the theme color. Triangles, dim lighting, glow sticks and metal inspired graphics shall dominate your eyes while distorted riffs and power chords will rumble through your ears.  Brandon Tay, Race Krehel, Critica will be showcasing their kinect and 4D art simultaneously while I Am David Sparkle band plays. This pioneering experience will feature some of the best locally based artists.

The CURATOR -

The event’s curator, Alvin Tan, is part of leading contemporary art and design collective; Phunkstudio. Considered the godfathers of design in Singapore, they are renowned globally for their large scale artworks and installations. Music is a huge inspiration to the work he creates. His inspiration for the event stems from Andy Warhol’s series of multi-disciplinary events called The Exploding Plastic Inevitable where music, art and performance came alive in a predominantly red landscape during the late 60′s. Alvin is also co-founder of eye wear brand, Mystic Vintage and a graduate of famed art school, Lasalle College of the Arts. Interview.

THE ARTISTS -

Critica is a Singapore based creative studio that focuses on creating design-driven animation content for advertising agencies, brands & the TV/Film industry. Clients include MTV, Nokia, Razer, ESPN, BBH, Ogilvy, Mediacorp Channels, BBC, CNN, HBO, Universal, Ministry Of Sound. Their work is seen on over 28 regional and international TV Channels, with clients spanning London, Netherlands, China, Australia, and Asia TV networks and brands. Interview.

Brandon Tay, of Syndicate fame will join Xavier on this platform. Brandon is a motion and interactive designer, who honed his skills in Australia before returning to Singapore to astound audiences with his brilliance. Interview.

Race Krehel of Just Nice is a fellow motion graphics designer. He is best known for his manipulation of the kinect device and will be on hand to give you a one of a kind experience by producing interactive visuals by translating movement into works of light. Interview.

Upstairs with co-founder Zaidi Salleh, a creative director and a graphics maestro is a multi-disciplinary creative think tank that conceptualizes, cultivates and collaborates between the core disciplines of graphics, art and space. Interview.

Jason Tong is the founder and director of Assembly – a multi-disciplinary creative agency. Jason who is a fellow co-founder of Mystic Vintage, brings his graphic talents to the event. Interview.

KittoZutto, a Singapore based art and design boutique will be represented by Jun. The boutique’s illustrations are created using techniques which combine fine art, super realistic surrealism styles and digital imaging techniques.Interview.

More graphic artists you will encounter; Rick Treweek, co-founder of Break design is a design and animation legend who has a knack for mobile gaming design. A creative genius, Rick ‘has an unmatched ability to extract the inherent cool in anything he touches.’ Interview.

SBTG, Mark Ong is an artist and the founder of label Royalefam who produces excellent apparel and sneaker customization. He is world renowned for the latter and his first claim to fame came at the Nike Talk Forum where he won a sneaker customizing competition. He can call the likes of Kobe Bryant, Mike Shinoda and Joe Hahn of Linkin Park, James Lavelle and Q-tip as fans of his sneaker customs. Interview.

The black emperor is a multi-disciplinary artist, Djohan Johari. His graphical as well as his musical work will be showcased. Interview.

Zahir Sanosi a.k.a KILAS (Keep It Like A Secret) is an illustrator as well as a musician with I Am David Sparkle. KILAS, just like the black emperor will have his graphical and musical work on display. Interview.

In the art element we have; Steve Lawler, the artist known as MOJOKO is the creative director of KULT 3D. He has worked at Diesel in Italy, Oglivy Singapore and attended the Graphic Design programme at Brighton University. A supremely talented artist – Steve is also a curator and has held several exhibitions over the years. Interview.

Lucinda Law (Leia), is an artist, writer and lecturer (in Contextual & Cultural Studies as well as Fashion design). Leia likes to play with elements of light and the idea of lightness which will be interesting in this red landscape. Interview.

SPEAK CRYPTIC is the moniker of Farizwan Fajari, an artist and illustrator working and living in Singapore. He graduated from the Lasalle College of the Arts in 2007 with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art, majoring in Painting. Interview.

Lastly representing the music element of the event; I Am David Sparkle will be performing tracks from their new album ‘Swords’ as well as a track specially made for this multi-disciplinary night. The quartet compromising Djohan Johari, Zahir Sanosi, Amran Khamis and Farizwan Fajari formed back in 2001 as an instrumental collective. The band’s unique name derives from a direct translation of a famous Malaysian singing legend – M. Daud Kilau. Interview.
